Queen Camilla is set to embark on a tour of Australia and Samoa later this week and is tipped to wear a lot of her favourite hue – blue.
Express.co.uk revealed earlier this year that dresser to the Queen, Jacqui Meakin had slowly released her grip on who can wear the colour blue at the same time as Camilla – but it must be a very different shade.
The source said that the colour blue is particularly problematic for the senior royals’ dressers because it’s a favourite of both Queen Camilla, 77, and the Princess of Wales, 42.
However, there will be no such clash in Australia as Camilla will be the only senior female royal in attendance.
Now, Caroline Holden, who used to dress Queen Camilla in her role working with designer Paddy Campbell and now styles high society names, says we can expect a lot of blue on Her Majesty’s upcoming tour because it “suits her” like no other colour.
“Camilla blossoms in blue,” said Mrs Holden. “It’s her colour, complimenting her eyes and it radiates her skin tones giving her a healthy glow.
“She is confident in the colour and often reverts to her favourite shade of royal blue.”
A source told Express.co.uk earlier this year, now that Queen Camilla is the highest ranking female in the Royal Family, she has first dibs on outfit choices.
“The Queen is now able to choose her outfits before all the other women in the Royal Family,” said the source.
“It’s part of the royal pecking order and that includes the clothes and colour.
“There was a time when Jacqui [Meakin] was a bit apprehensive to allow blue to be worn at the same time as the Queen, but she’s relaxed that now as long as the blues are very different shades.”
Meakin was put in charge of choosing outfits for the most senior woman in the Royal Family after taking over from the late Queen’s dresser Angela Kelly.
However, soon after taking up the role sources claimed she had quickly “ruffled a few feathers” at Buckingham Palace by being too strict over outfit colour choices – most notably the colour blue.
Queen Camilla does seem to love the colour and has racked up a long line of blue outfits in recent months.
Her Majesty wore blue to her recent appearance at Westminster Abbey, the Channel Islands, the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament and a whole host of other events.
“More recently she has been trying lighter shades and it’s giving her a more youthful glow,” said Mrs. Holden.
“She beams with confidence and looked so elegant on her recent trip to the sacristy project at Westminster Abbey, wearing a beautifully tailored Bruce Oldfield suit in powder blue.
“Camilla wowed the crowds in the Channel Islands wearing a gorgeous baby blue summer pleated shirt by Anna Valentine and always looks stunning in the colour.”
With the King and Queen’s tour of Australia and Samoa just around the corner, the royal couple are expected to wear a lot of light fabrics, matching colours and less formal attire due to the heat.
