Simon Farnaby, who also appeared as a footman in the short film, said that when he complimented the monarch on being a great actress, she replied: “Well, I do it all the time.”

The Queen starred in the comedy scene last year to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.

In it, she shares tea with the fictional bear at Buckingham Palace and reveals that she also likes marmalade sandwiches.

Simon, 50, said that afterwards he praised the monarch for her performance.

He said: “That was a very special thing to be part of. That was part of history and great to be there. I was in the same room. It was quite the day. I needlessly just went up to her and said, ‘Ma’am, that was fantastic. You’re a very good actress’. And she said, ‘Well, I do it all the time’. I went, ‘Oh, you mean like playing the part of the Queen?’ And she went, ‘I beg your pardon?’

“And then I lost all my confidence. I thought she was giving me the scoop, like it’s a part, a role.”

Simon revealed the Queen nailed her scene after being advised to deliver her lines as if she was talking to her grandchildren.

He added: “It was ok in the end. There was one conversation. There was a bit where Paddington says, ‘I keep my marmalade sandwiches in my hat, for emergencies’.

“She goes, ‘So do I. I keep mine in here’, and she has a handbag.

“The director would come in and say, ‘Ma’am, could you just be a bit gentler’.

“And she’d be so sweet and she’d go, ‘I’m so sorry, yes of course’.

“He’d go, ‘Like you’re talking to your grandchildren’.”

Simon added: “It was really sweet and really lovely.”
