What is the Coronation Emblem and what does it mean?

HISTORIC events need special treatment and a way to be remembered.

And King Charles’ Coronation on May 6, 2023, is being celebrated with its own unique Emblem.

The official emblem of the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort

What is the Coronation Emblem?

The Coronation Emblem pays tribute to King Charles.

It is intended to be used by charities, companies and individuals to celebrate the Coronation and the reign of the King.

The emblem features a rose, a thistle, a daffodil and a shamrock, which are symbols from all four nations across the United Kingdom.

In the middle of the emblem is the shape of the St Edward’s Crown, which was made for King Charles II and is the official crown for His Majesty King Charles III.

The whole emblem is designed in red, white and blue of the union flag and features the words King Charles III Coronation May 6 2023.

What does the Coronation Emblem mean?

The Coronation Emblem is paying respect to His Majesty’s love for the environment and natural world.

All the flowers on the emblem are a tribute to the United Kingdom and his love for the country.

The rose stands for England, the thistle for Scotland, the daffodil for Wales and the shamrock for Northern Ireland.

Who created the Coronation Emblem?

The emblem was designed by Sir Jony Ive KBE and his creative collective LoveFrom.

He is a British designer and worked previously for Apple as Chief Design Officer.

LoveFrom is a creative collective of designers, architects, musicians, filmmakers, writers, engineers and artists.

Speaking about the design of the Coronation Emblem Jony Ive said: “It is such an honour to be able to contribute to this remarkable national occasion, and our team is so very proud of this work.

“The design was inspired by King Charles’ love of the planet, nature, and his deep concern for the natural world.”

What other emblems will be seen at the coronation?

As of April 2023 it is not known if there will be any other emblems seen at the Coronation.

However the Coronation Emblem is available in different colours.

Next to the main coloured one in the union flag colours, there are also versions in red, blue, black and white.

The official Coronation Emblem will be used throughout all historic celebrations in May, including the service in Westminster Abbey, Windsor Castle and all the street parties and gatherings around the country.

It is also used on all official merchandise like mugs, plates and tea towels.
