Royal Guests from around India gathered in Bhopal to celebrate the Wedding of the Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, the 8th Nawab of Pataudi and Princess Sajida Sultan, the 12th Nawab Begum of Bhopal on this day in 1939.
Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, the 8th Nawab of Pataudi, son of Nawab Muhammad Ibrahim Ali Khan of Pataudi and Shahar Bano Begum, married Princess Sajida Sultan of Bhopal, daughter of Nawab Hamidullah Khan and Begum Maimoona Sultan. While the couple both reigned over separate Princely States in their own right, the Nawab passed away in 1952, while Princess Sajida Sultan only became the titular 12th Nawab Begum of Bhopal in 1960, passing away in 1995.
The Nawab of Pataudi and the Begum of Bhopal has three daughters and one son, the cricketer Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The actor Saif Ali Khan (the current Nawab of Pataudi and head of the Bhopal Royal Family) is their grandson.
Begum Sajida Sultan’s spectacular Wedding Outfit was worn by the actress Sharmila Tagore to marry Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in 1968, with the outfit being most recently worn by actress Kareena Kapoor to marry Saif Ali Khan, the current Nawab of Pataudi, in 2012.
