The crown for the ultimate royal Christmas tree has been claimed and no more pretenders need apply.
The Danish royal family have unveiled their decorations and pride of place goes to….David Bowie.
King Frederik and Queen Mary have shaken things up in the Danish royal court since he took the throne in January 2024 and now they’re taking it a style step further by having the most stylish of all singers on their Christmas tree.
The star whose image dominated music is now dominating the Amalienborg Palace.
The David decoration could well be a nod to a much missed member of their family. The King and Queen of Denmark had a pet dog called Ziggy for many years and took to social media to mourn when they lost their beloved companion and this part of Bowie’s career is synonymous with Ziggy Stardust.
However, Bowie purists might say that this representation is more Aladdin Sane than Ziggy.
With no official explanation, it might just as easily be a nod to one of the most famous Christmas songs of all – David Bowie’s version of Little Drummer Boy on which he duetted with Bing Crosby.
Bowie nestles among more traditional red, green and golden baubles on the tree which now stands in the home of King Frederik and Queen Mary.
And among the branches is a star man.
