Royal Guests and Relatives from around the world joined the Duke of Braganza and his aristocratic bride, Dona Isabel de Castro Curvelo de Herédia, for their spectacular Wedding at the Jerónimos Church in Lisbon, on this day in 1995, 30 years ago, following a Gala Dinner at Queluz Palace the night before.

Dom Duarte Pio, the Duke of Braganza, the Head of the Royal House of Braganza, married Dona Isabel Inês Castro Curvello de Herédia at the Jerónimos Monastery in Belém in Lisbon, which was the first Portuguese Royal Wedding in Portugal since 1886.

The Duchess of Braganza wore a voluminous gown crafted from the finest zibeline silk, its bodice richly embroidered with sequins and beads. Atop her head, Queen Amélie’s Diamond Tiara—unseen for decades—secured the flowing veil.

After the religious ceremony, the bride and groom welcomed their guests to a celebratory reception held in the Monastery’s historic main cloister. Surrounded by centuries-old stone arches and blooming courtyards, the couple cut their wedding cake amid joyful applause.

 

The day’s festivities concluded with an intimate dinner at the Duke’s residence in Sintra, reserved for royal guests and close family members.

Representatives from more than twenty Royal Houses joined the Duke of Braganza, pretender of the Portuguese Throne, and his aristocratic bride for a spectacular Variety Show and Gala Dinner at Queluz Palace, on the eve of their Religious Wedding Ceremony.

The Gala Evening began with a vibrant Variety Show in the gardens of Queluz Palace, highlighted by a performance from the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art. This was followed by a series of traditional Timorese dances, celebrating themes of marriage and motherhood. The festivities continued with a concert featuring several student music ensembles and concluded with a dinner served in the Palace’s Throne Room and Music Room.

The future Duchess of Braganza wore an antique naturalistic-inspired suite comprising a long pair of earrings, a corsage brooch, a set of hair pins and a necklace turned into hair ornament.
