In her first official appearance this year in a royal capacity, Princess Kate stepped out onto the balcony to join her husband, Prince William, and her three young children for the RAF flypast at Trooping the Colour 2024.
Trooping the Colour is a staple royal event that is jam-packed with pomp and pageantry and Princess Kate stood proudly alongside her husband, King Charles, Queen Camilla and the wider Royal Family as they waved to crowds below.
The key event in the royal diary takes place every year and marks the official birthday of the British Sovereign. It dates back centuries and became an annual event from 1760.
More than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians came together in a fantastic display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare – much like we saw at the King’s Coronation last year.
However some differences to this year’s celebrations were inevitable due to his and Princess Kate’s ongoing health battle. Last year the King went by horseback, but he chose to travel in the Ascot Landau carriage instead to avoid any risk to his health.
Members of the Royal Family were out in force, with some travelling on horseback and others sitting in one of the grand carriages. Trooping the Colour concluded with an RAF fly-past, watched by Members of the Royal Family from Buckingham Palace balcony.
It was Kate’s first appearance in public this year following her cancer diagnosis. Last night she shared a deeply moving statement where she revealed she has “good days and bad days” while undergoing gruelling chemotherapy.
She said: “I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”
