Princess Charlotte was born on May 2 2015, nearly 18 years after her grandmother Princess Diana died in a car accident in Paris on August 31 1997.
The two may never have met, but there are clear similarities in their appearance and even their mannerisms by looking at pictures of them taken when they were similar ages.
It’s clear that both Charlotte and Diana have a mischievous side but will always take their royal duties seriously, with Charlotte often minding her little brother Prince Louis at events.
Even the way they are dressed is sometimes similar, and it seems likely that the eight-year-old Princess may follow in Diana’s footsteps to become a royal fashion icon.
Here Express.co.uk takes a look at some of the key moments where the family resemblance shone through the most.
Back in 2016 Princess Charlotte celebrated her first birthday, but even then her facial features were similar to Diana’s at that age.
The pair both have fair hair and a similar eye and nose shape, although Charlotte’s hair has become a little darker as she has gotten older.
Charlotte joined the Royal Family for outings at an exceptionally young age, attending church with them at Christmas even when she was a toddler.

In the 1960s, Diana too had short fair hair and the same nose as Charlotte, although unlike her granddaughter she was not born royal.
Diana Spencer, as she was known at the time of her birth, was born on the Sandringham estate on July 1 1961.
Her family were close to the royals, as her grandmothers had served as ladies-in-waiting to the Queen Mother.

Princess Charlotte aged four in 2019 looks even more like Diana at a similar age, as they have both grown their hair out.
In 2019 Charlotte had become a big sister to Prince Louis, who was born on April 23 2018, just before her uncle Prince Harry got married.
She once again joined the Royal Family for the Christmas service at Sandringham that year.

Princess Diana and Charlotte have similar-shaped faces as four-year-old girls, although Diana’s hair is still fairer.
This picture was taken in 1965, less than twenty years before Diana married Prince Charles and gave birth to her two sons William and Harry.
In fact Diana was just 19 when she and Charles became engaged, with their wedding taking place weeks after her twentieth birthday.
