King Charles is set to undertake his first official overseas visit since resuming public duties next month when he leads the British Royal Family at D-Day anniversary events in France.
Buckingham Palace confirmed on Friday that King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales and other members of the Royal Family will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France and the United Kingdom.
Over the course of two days, the Royal Family will attend commemorative events.
On 5 June, King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William will attend the United Kingdom’s national event in Portsmouth.
The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence will be in Normandy to attend an event with The Royal Regina Rifles Regiment from Canada. There, Princess Anne will unveil a Second World War Rifleman statue and commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings at the official event in Normandy.
They will later travel to the Bayeux War Cemetery to meet Normandy veterans and French officials at a service for the Royal British Legion of Service Commemoration.
From there, the royal couple will attend a service of remembrance at the Bayeux Cathedral in recognition of Princess Anne’s role as President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Later that evening, the royal couple will attend an evening service and vigil, where Princess Anne will give a speech honouring those who were lost during the D-Day Landings.
On 6 June, King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to Ver-sur-Mer, France, for the Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion’s commemorative event.
Prince William, meanwhile, will travel to Courseulles-sur-Mer and attend the Canadian Government’s D-Day Landing service at the Juno Beach Centre. The royal will meet with Canadian veterans of the Second World War and other Canadian Armed Forces officials and youth representatives.
Prince William will later attend the international ceremony at Omaha Beach, which will comprise more than 25 heads of state and veterans.
Back in the United Kingdom, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will attend the Royal British Legion’s Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, meanwhile, will attend a musical event at Royal Albert Hall entitled ‘D-Day 80: Remembering the Normandy Landings’.
