The queen bringing all the drama with her latest tiara pick

Queen Maxima chose one of the biggest and most dramatic tiaras in the Dutch royal collection. And to really bring the drama, she made quite the impression by not even choosing its largest setting.

The Dutch Queen wore the Württemberg Ornate Pearl Tiara for the Omani State Dinner. The tiara was originally created in 1897 to redesign the gem ahead of Queen Wilhemina’s enthronement celebrations.

The diamond and pearl tiara has four different settings. The first and largest setting features eleven pear-shaped diamonds mounted at the top, with the second setting featuring five mounted pearls (the setting Queen Maxima chose for the State Dinner). The third setting has six smaller pearls mounted between the top elements while the fourth and final setting does not use any mounted pearls.

The young Queen Wilhemina wore the Württemberg Ornate Pearl Tiara for her first official portraits as monarch. However, her daughter, Queen Juliana, did not wear it often.

The then-Princess Beatrix revived the tiara when she wore the largest setting in 1966 for her wedding to Claus von Amsberg. She wore it frequently throughout her reign, even choosing it for her abdication dinner.

Queen Maxima has only chosen the Württemberg Ornate Pearl Tiara a handful of times, with the smallest setting worn twice.

Maxima also chose to rewear a Mahpara Khan gown that she first wore in 2023 to Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan’s wedding. The white gown features intricate embroidery work that combines Mughal patterns with several traditional designs, including dapka, naqshi, resham and gota work.

Meanwhile, Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia chose the Mellerio Ruby Tiara for the Omani State Dinner, a pretty gem that she famously tried on while still a child while her mum was getting ready.
