The Prince and Princess of Wales have a major event on the horizon – they will reportedly be joining The King in May for events marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Reports in The Mirror say King Charles will be leading the Royal Family at several events marking the anniversary. The commemorations may include a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey, a ceremony at the Cenotaph, an RAF flypast over Buckingham Palace, and a military parade.

The parade is reportedly going to end at Horse Guards Parade and there is also talk of a special concert there.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are said to be joining King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh for the commemorative events.

VE Day or Victory in Europe Day marks the day that Germany officially surrendered to Allied forces in Europe. Victory in Japan day in August 1945 brought World War Two to an end.

The UK always has a Bank Holiday weekend at the start of May and street parties are planned for that time although no extra Bank Holiday has been announced to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. During the weekend, the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, and St. Paul’s Cathedral will be lit with V-shaped beams of light.

It is thought that King Charles will also make a speech marking the occasion, as Queen Elizabeth II did on the 75th anniversary.
