The Princess Royal has worn one of her late mother’s favourite cloaks to a London event and it’s become one of this year’s royal style statements.

Princess Anne wore her mother’s Admiral’s Cloak to attend a Choral Evensong at Temple Church, a royal peculiar in London. (A royal peculiar is a church that directly reports to the monarch rather than to the Anglican Church hierarchy as normal.)

Queen Elizabeth II wore the Admiral’s Cloak for the famous Annie Leibovitz’s 2008 portraits.

However, those weren’t the first portraits in which Queen Elizabeth wore the cloak for portraits. Her Late Majesty wore them for Cecil Beaton portraits from 1968.

The striking black cloak has golden buttons and details on the collar. Beaton noted that the simplistic design allowed the monarch to appeal regal and timeless.

The Princess Royal wore the cloak to take part in Evensong, as she read a passage from 1 Corinthians in the Bible. Notably, a passage from the same chapter was read at The Queen’s 2022 funeral.
