The King hosts the first Garden Party of his reign at Buckingham Palace – Royal Central

The King has hosted the first Garden Party of his reign just days ahead of his Coronation.

Held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, His Majesty invited a number of guests to join him for tea and refreshments in the spring sunshine.

Joining The King for the seasonal festivities was Queen Camilla alongside the Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent.

Guests invited to join The Royal Family for the party included members of the Royal Voluntary Service who were named Coronation Champions for their dedication to volunteering and service.

Garden parties are held annually to create access for members of the Royal Family to meet with regular people who have contributed significantly to their communities.

Each summer, the monarch traditionally hosts two to three Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace, and one at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland.

The next Garden Party will take place on 9 May which will also be a celebration of the coronation, with Their Majesties due to host their Scottish party on 4 July.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has also been granted special permission from the King to host a garden party for the Not Forgotten Association on 16 May at Buckingham Palace.

The Not Forgotten Association provides support to ex-service members who are living with disabilities and illnesses, and to serving personnel who have been wounded or are sick. According to the Palace, 2,000 people are expected to attend.
