The King has called for people across the UK to come together to build a society free of hatred on Holocaust Memorial Day.

His Majesty sent a message marking the international day of remembrance and commemoration which is held every year on January 27th, the day that the concentration camp at Auschwitz was liberated.

In his message, King Charles said ”Holocaust Memorial Day offers a valuable opportunity for the richly diverse communities of this nation to come together and recommit to building a society free from antisemitism, persecution and hatred.”

It was issued on the eve of the Memorial, just before The King entered hospital for treatment.

King Charles and Queen Camilla also took part in an act of commemoration at Sandringham House earlier in the week when they lit a candle for Holocaust Memorial Day.

It was also announced that The Queen has become the first royal patron of the Anne Frank Trust UK.
