The King and Queen make surprise appearance on Eurovision Song Contest to kickstart competition

It was filmed during their visit to Liverpool at the end of April, when they were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the arena that is hosting the 67th Eurovision Song Contest, and pressed a button that saw the stage light up for the first time.

Eurovision 2023 is taking place in Liverpool after the UK was chosen to host the competition on behalf of war-torn Ukraine, which won last year’s contest.

During their visit, the King said he would be watching the show “with great interest,” as Their Majesties met Mae Muller, the UK’s Eurovision hopeful.

The King and Queen were joined in the Welcome to Liverpool video by the appearance of other famous faces, including Paul Hollywood, the celebrity chef and TV presenter, and the late comedian Paul O’Grady.
