Princess Leonor of Spain has grown into her role as heir to throne at a fairly young age, regularly carrying out engagements and continuing with her military training at only 19. As the future Queen of Spain, she has highlighted the different facets of her role with several strong fashion choices this year.
Dress Uniform, Madrid (January 2024)
Several female heirs across Europe are undertaking military training, when they would not have considered it a generation ago. In August 2023, Leonor began a year of training at the General Military Academy in Zaragoza.
The Princess of Asturias attended the annual Pascua Militar in January 2024 in her full dress uniform as a cadet. She joined her father (also in dress uniform) to receive the salute. Her Royal Highness also wore the blue Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III sash.
Later in the year, Princess Leonor graduated from her army training in a ceremony which drew huge attention across Spain.
Red Carolina Herrera Suit, Portugal (July 2024)
In July, the Princess of Asturias wore a striking red Carolina Herrera suit with a double-breasted blazer and trousers for a visit to Portugal. This was a solo visit without her parents, and during her time there she took part in a round table discussion on ocean defense and strategies.
Although some younger royals shy away from bold choices, Leonor choses to take risks with bright colours and strong silhouettes.
Maje Tweed Dress, Spain (October 2024)
Princess Leonor chose an elegant but still youthful tweed mini-dress from Maje to host audiences ahead of the Princess of Asturias Awards in October. While the tweed fabric and wrapped neckline give a classic look, the hemline of the mine-dress allows the dress to be more playful.
The princess attended this event with her parents and younger sister; her father used to host the awards (then known as the Prince of Asturias Awards) when he was heir.
