The Royal Family has an incredible amethyst demi-parure in their collection that is rarely seen but still impressive.

A demi-parure is a coordinating set of jewellery that does not have a tiara.

The Kent Amethyst Demi-Parure is the oldest set in the Windsor family vaults. The set has a necklace, a pair of earrings, three broaches, and a pair of hair combs. The necklace is considerably stunning as it features eight large, cabochon-cut amethysts surrounded by diamonds.

Queen Elizabeth II often wore one of the brooches, a shell-shaped amethyst and diamond brooch for engagements during the day. However, she did wear the full demi-parure in 1984 when she made an official State Visit to Portugal where she paired it with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

These impressive pieces originally belonged to the Duchess of Kent, the mother of Queen Victoria. Upon her death in 1861, the Duchess left the amethyst pieces to Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria left them to the Crown in her will, meaning that they do not belong to a single member of the family.

Unfortunately, we have not seen either Queen Camilla or The Princess of Wales in this set but hopefully will in the future.
