The Swedish Royal Family joined the King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden for the Opening of the Session of Parliament (Riksmötets Öppnande) in Stockholm on September 11th, ahead of a Service at the Storkyrkan and a Concert at the Royal Opera.
In the morning, the Swedish Royal Family arrived at the Riksdag (Parliament) in carriages for the Opening Ceremony, ahead of the Riksdag Service at the Storkyrkan in Stockholm.
On the steps of the Riksdag House, the Royal Family was then greeted by the Speaker of the Riksdag, Andreas Norlén. The Army’s music band played at Riksplan.
The royal couple and the crown princess couple were escorted into the plenary hall by the speaker and the prime minister to the tunes of the Navy’s band’s processional march performed by the Marine’s band.
The ceremony then began with the assembled members of parliament singing the king’s song .The speaker then moved that HM the King should open the new parliament.
In his speech, the King said, among other things:
What you decide in this chamber will affect the Swedish people for many years to come. My hope and conviction is that you have respectful debates, that you listen to each other, and that you make the best decisions for Sweden.

In the evening, the Swedish Royal Family attended a Concert in honour of the Opening of the Riksdag at the Royal Opera in Stockholm.
