Sweden’s Royal Court has given their King, Carl Gustaf, a special gift for his Golden Jubilee.
The Royal Court collected money to erect two monograms of the King on the gates of Logården. They now have a place of honour next to King Karl XIV Johan’s monogram on the gates. Of course, Karl XIV Johan was the first Bernadotte King of Sweden.
The version of Carl Gustaf’s monogram used on the gates was designed in 1996 by Lennart Askwall.
The Royal Family attended the unveiling, with Princess Madeleine making it to Sweden from Florida a few days ahead of her father’s big day.
The King, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia and Princess Madeleine were joined by the King’s sister, Princess Christina and her husband Tord Magnuson.
The Royal Court aren’t the only ones who have presented His Majesty with gifts ahead of his 50th anniversary.
The Riksdag (Swedish parliament) presented the King with an eight square metre tapestry that will hang in the Royal Palace’s western staircase. The Stone in Water artwork is from the drawings of Lars Lerin. Ebba Bergström and Tova Vibrandt from Alice Lund Textilier weaved the tapestry. Frida Lindberg was the artistic director.
Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlén and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson were on hand to give His Majesty the gift from the Riksdag.
