King Charles III received Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei and Prince Mateen of Brunei in an Audience at Buckingham Palace on December 18th, at the end of a year marking the 40th Anniversary of the Independence of the Sultanate of Brunei.

King Charles III received the Sultan of Brunei and Prince Mateen for an Audience in the 18th Century Room at Buckingham Palace.

King Charles and the Sultan have had close family ties going back decades, long before the then Prince of Wales presided over the Brunei Independence Celebrations in 1984, which came ahead of the last Brunei State Visit to Britain in 1992. The then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall last visited Brunei in 2017.

Last year, the Sultan of Brunei and Prince Mateen also attended the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
