Spanish princesses share an old photograph to mark Spain’s Euro 2024 win

For Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, Monday’s football celebrations were a replay of the moment 12 years earlier when Spain won the Euros—and the royal court had the photos to prove it.

In newly released photos, the Spanish Royal Court shared side-by-side images of the young royals holding the 2012 Euros trophy and the 2024 Euros trophy, won by Spain both times.

“Twelve years later, the Euro Cup returns to Spain,” the Spanish Royal Court shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Alvaro Morata, the Spanish team captain, presented King Felipe with the trophy at a reception at Zarzuela Palace on Monday, and thanked him for his support throughout the tournament.

King Felipe and Infanta Sofía attended the Euro Cup Final on Sunday evening in Germany. They were joined by the Prince of Wales and Prince George, rooting on England. Spain defeated England 2-1 in the final minutes of the match.

King Felipe and Infanta Sofía joined the team on the pitch after their win, with the King shaking hands with every player as they received their medals and the Euro Cup trophy.

After Spain clinched the win, the Spanish Royal Court posted on X: “EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!!! You have been the best team, you have made us enjoy every game and all of Spain is proud of you. Congratulations @SEFutbol

“This result does justice to what we have seen on the field throughout #EURO2024”

Infanta Sofía is something of a lucky charm when it comes to Spanish football on the international stage.

She joined her mother, Queen Letizia, for the Women’s World Cup Final in Australia last summer and saw the women’s national team defeat England 1-0. The two joined in the celebrations and were presented with their own jerseys.
