The future queen of Spain sailed into New York City on Wednesday morning, her final stop on a whirlwind five months at sea as she gains practical naval training.
Princess Leonor boarded the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano earlier this year as part of her second phase of naval training; the future queen had previously spent the fall training on land.
The Spanish Royal Court shared new photos of Princess Leonor in New York City, where she will remain through Friday before departing for Spain, where she will join the Blas de Lezo frigate on 14 June for a phase of naval training in the Atlantic and Mediterranean waters.
On Friday, Princess Leonor will be the flag-bearer at a swearing-in ceremony in New York, and until she leaves for Spain, will carry out naval duties with the Juan Sebastián de Elcano.
The future queen will rejoin her fellow naval cadets in July in Gijón and will disembark with her crew on 13 July in Marín.
Princess Leonor has made stops in Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic throughout the spring; her most notable stop came in Panama, where she was reunited with her mother, Queen Letizia.
The future queen has spent the last two years advancing her military training as she prepares to become Spain’s first modern queen regnant. Last year she completed her army training with the rank of Cadet Ensign. She is currently a Midshipman with the Spanish Navy.
This fall, she will begin her year-long training with the Spanish Air Force at the Air and Space Academy in San Javier.
