Spectacular Heirlooms of the Wied Princely Family from the collection of Princess Marie zu Wied, the Dowager Hereditary Duchess of Württemberg are going on Auction at the Sotheby’s ‘Noble & Private Collections’ Sale in Cologne today!

Princess Marie zu Wied, the Dowager Hereditary Duchess of Württemberg is widow of the late Hereditary Duke Friedrich of Württemberg and the mother of the current Duke of Württemberg, who is currently downsizing from her home at Schloss Friedrichshafen, and is thus auctioning heirlooms from her own Wied Princely Family.

Gold, Diamond and Pearl-set Bracelet

Estimate: 2,000 – 3,000 EUR

Property of Duchess Marie Von Württemberg

A Swiss yellow Gold, Diamond and Pearl-set Bracelet Watch, circa 1880 , which belonged to Princess Pauline zu Wied, née Württemberg, daughter of King William II of Württemberg and Princess Marie of Waldeck and Pyrmont, and spouse of the Prince zu Wied and thence by descent to Duchess Marie von Württemberg.

According to family tradition this watch indeed was worn by Princess Pauline (see above and image), who displayed rather ‘firm’ wrists as also indicated by the largesse of the watch’s bracelet.

Natural Pearl and Diamond Stick Pin

Estimate: 6,000 – 8,000 EUR

Property of Duchess Marie Von Württemberg

A Natural Pearl and Diamond Stick Pin, from the mid-19th century, which is set with a slightly baroque drop-shaped natural pearl, capped by rose diamonds. The Pin originated from Princess Pauline zu Wied and thence by descent to Duchess Marie von Württemberg.

Malachite and Gold Bracelet

Estimate: 2,000 – 3,000 EUR

Property of Duchess Marie Von Württemberg

A Malachite and Gold Bracelet, probably Russian, set with three malachite cameos in a surround of openwork, foliate design circa 1840, also belonged to Princess Pauline zu Wied, née Württemberg, and spouse of the Prince zu Wied and thence by descent to Duchess Marie von Württemberg.

Diamond Ring

Estimate: 2,600 – 3,500 EUR
