Prince Ricardo De La Cerda
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are currently in Nepal for a six-day trip to celebrate links and ties with the United Kingdom. And the Duchess has received a special gift for The King.
While visiting Maiti Nepal, an organisation that provides support to victims and survivors of human trafficking, gender-based violence, and sexual exploitation, the Duchess was able to view several photographs from the King’s visit in 1998.
She was also able to meet some of the women that met Charles on his trip and chat with them. One of the women actually presented the Duchess with an elaborately embroidered cushion for The King.
Anuradha Koirala founded Maitai Nepal in 1993 and sought to provide a safe escape for girls and women.
While it was originally only two rooms, the organisation now has an entire complex. The space includes a safe home for women and children, and even a schoolroom.
When she was chatting with students, the Duchess of Edinburgh learned that they have peanut butter and banana as a snack, one of her own childhood snacks.
The Duchess of Edinburgh also visited Bhaktapur Hospital. She met doctors, nurses, and staff in the maternity ward, as well as with new mothers.
