The Royal Family has marked Mother’s Day with one already famous photograph and some rather poignant words.
The day was celebrated with a heartfelt message from the Princess of Wales who was seen for the first time since undergoing major surgery in January.
As Kensington Palace shared a new image of the Princess with her three children, Catherine wrote ”Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. C.”
The Duke of Edinburgh also spoke of the importance of marking the day as he gave an interview that went out on the morning that many mums were being treated. Mother’s Day falls on March 10th this year, which is also Prince Edward’s 60th birthday.
Talking to Alan Titchmarsh, the Duke said ”Mothering Sunday was very much one of those (days) where you made a special effort just to say ‘thank you’. So that goes on and that’s the lovely thing about it.”
The Duke added ”those days were, and those days are, really important to remember some very, very special people in our lives. There should be several times in the year when we make a special effort…”
The official social media of the Royal Family also marked Mother’s Day in a very special way. For so many, it is a day to recall those they loved and now have to live without and this was reflected in the message shared on the account of The King and Queen.
Accompanied by a photo of Charles III kissing the hand of his mother, Elizabeth II, was a message that read ”Wishing all Mothers, and those who are missing their Mums today, a peaceful Mothering Sunday.”
