The leader of the Scottish National Party in Westminster, Stephen Flynn, has been heavily criticised on social media for his conduct during the Remembrance Sunday commemorations at the Cenotaph.

Mr Flynn, who became the SNP’s leader in the House of Commons in December 2022, held his wreath upside down and refused to sing the national anthem.

People took to social media to criticise the politician, who was first elected as the MP for Aberdeen South in 2019.

One person tweeted: “Surely Mr Stephen Flynn you might at least have the decency to check that you are holding your wreath the right way up.”

Another said: “Stephen Flynn the only person among thousands refusing to sing the National Anthem. Get this charlatan away from this ceremony. He is an embarrassment to Scotland and the Scots the who gave their lives for our freedom.”

Mr Flynn is not the only politician to have been criticised at Remembrance Sunday commemorations over the years.

During his time as Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn was accused of ‘not bowing deeply enough’ when laying a wreath at the base of the Cenotaph.
