Happy 20th Anniversary to Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, Prince of Venice and the Princess of Venice, who got married at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome on this day in 2003, 20 years ago! When the French Actress married the Heir of the House of Savoy, she wore a spectacular historic Heirloom: The Savoy Tourmaline Tiara!

A spectacular Antique Diamond and Tourmaline Parure consisting of a Tiara, a versatile pair of Earrings, a Necklace, a Choker, a pair of Bracelets, and a Brooch, this Parure was a wedding gift from Princess Elisabeth of Saxony from her mother-in-law, Queen Maria Teresa of Sardinia, when she married the Duke of Genoa in 1855.
The Tiara and Parure are designed to allow the pink tourmalines could be switched out for garnets, coral, or turquoises. Having been inherited by Queen Margherita, from her mother Princess Elisabeth in 1912, the Tourmaline Parure has been passed down in the main line of the Savoy Royal Family, but was not photographed or depicted for over a century.
After the Wedding of the Prince of Naples to Marina Ricolfi-Doria in 1971, the Savoy Tourmaline Parure passed into the possession of Princess of Naples, who was frequently photographed wearing several versions of the Tourmaline Earrings with the Choker for several portraits as well as the Wedding of Prince Kyril of Bulgaria in 1989.
In 2003, when Clotilde Courau married Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, Prince of Venice at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome on this day in 2003, 20 years ago, she wore the Pink Tourmaline Tiara and a smaller pair of earrings.
The following year, the Princess of Naples wore the Pink Tourmaline Tiara and Choker for the Wedding Gala of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen 2004.
The following week, the Princess of Naples wore the Pink Tourmaline Earrings and Choker for the Wedding of Crown Prince Felipe of Spain and Letizia Ortiz in Madrid, where that evening the Prince of Naples got into a fight with his cousin, the Duke of Aosta, which left the Duke requiring medical attention, after being propped up by Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, and led King Juan Carlos, cousin of both men, declaring that “never again” would an opportunity to abuse his hospitality be afforded.
More recently, the larger version of the Savoy Pink Tourmaline Earrings were worn by the Princess of Venice for the Wedding Ball of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco in Monte Carlo in 2011. Lets hope we see the spectacular heirloom Tourmaline Parure worn again soon, possibly on her daughter, Princess Vittoria of Savoy, the Heir of the Savoy Royal Family!
