Sarah, Duchess of York is being treated for breast cancer.

The duchess discovered she had an early form of the disease during a routine mammogram and was advised to have immediate surgery.

She has since undergone a successful operation.

The duchess is now receiving medical care and her doctors say her prognosis is good.

Sarah has expressed her ”immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days”.

The duchess said she is also said she is ”hugely grateful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom free and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”
