One key royal has been praised for making a diplomatic move which could stop any sort of royal drama unfolding. Over the last few years, news of Prince Harry’s ongoing rifts with his royal relatives since stepping back from royal life in 2020 have been dominating global headlines.
While the British Royal Family have not publicly commented on the state of their private relationship with Harry, it seems that other royal families have watched the relationship dwindle and have taken notes. One royal who seems to have done this is King Frederik X of Denmark.
For his recent 57th birthday, the King of Denmark invited his nephews Count Nikolai and Count Felix of Monpezat, to join him for a family breakfast at Amalienborg Palace, where he awarded them the prestigious Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog – the second-highest honour that the King can bestow which is typically given to citizens of Denmark for outstanding service.
It is believed the King gave these honours to his nephews, the sons of his brother Prince Joachim, to ease tensions after both Nikolai and Felix were stripped off their royal titles two years ago by their grandmother, Queen Margrethe II, who later abdicated and passed the crown to Frederik.
Their royal titles were removed from them and their younger siblings, Henrik and Athena, in September 2022 by the former monarch, who reportedly wanted to slim down the monarchy – a move a number of Royal Families have made.
It is believed Queen Margrethe also made the move so that these four grandchildren could shape their own lives.
However, Joachim was unimpressed by his mother’s decision, especially as Frederik and Mary’s own four children Prince Christian, Princess Isabella and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine kept their titles.
As reported by MailOnline, Joachim believed his children were “mistreated”, leading to a rift between himself and his royal relatives, which has stayed distant as a result of the prince now living in Washington DC.
However, the King’s latest move when it comes to his nephews has been spotted by royal fans and praised, especially as it could ease tensions.
One royal fan wrote on Instagram: “A beautiful response to their loss of the Prince of Denmark title!”
Another said: “A good idea, that the former princes should be awarded a distinguished order.”
