The Norwegian Royal Family hosted King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden on his State Visit to Norway on this day in 1974, 50 years ago, which was the first outgoing State Visit to his Reign. There was another Swedish State Visit to Norway in 1993.
King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden was received by King Olav V of Norway and the Norwegian Royal Family with an Official Welcome at the Royal Palace of Oslo, followed by a Luncheon at Skaugum, the residence of the Crown Princely Family.
In the evening, King Olav (wearing the Order of the Seraphim) hosed a State Banquet in honour of King Carl XVI Gustaf (wearing the Order of St. Olav) at the Royal Palace of Oslo, which was also attended by Crown Prince Harald (in the Order of the Seraphim), Crown Princess Sonja (wearing Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara and the Order of the Seraphim), and Princess Astrid (in the Vasa Tiara and the Order of St. Olav).
Additional events included a Gala Performance attended by King Olav, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Crown Prince Harald, Crown Princess Sonja (wearing the Norwegian Emerald Parure), and Princess Astrid (in her Gold Bandeau Tiara).
King Carl XVI Gustaf also hosted a Return Banquet for King Olav, Crown Prince Harald, Crown Princess Sonja (wearing Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara), and Princess Astrid (in Queen Alexandra’s Turquoise Circlet) at the Swedish Embassy in Oslo.
