Four Queens and the Heirs of Denmark and Norway joined the Swedish Royal Family to celebrate the Wedding of Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and Sofia Hellqvist in the Chapel of the Royal Palace of Stockholm on this day in 2015, 10 years ago!
Prince Carl Philip of Sweden married Sofia Hellqvist in the Chapel of the Royal Palace of Stockholm, which was conducted by the Right Reverend Lars-Göran Lönnermark and the Reverend Michael Bjerkhagen, with songs including Coldplay’s “Fix You” and Rhianna’s “Umbrella” before the newly married couple and their guests processed out of the Royal Chapel to a modern version of ‘Joyful, Joyful’.
After the service, Prince Carl Philip and the new Princess Sofia rode through the streets of Stockholm in an open carriage before returning to the Royal Palace, where they waved to the crowds from the balcony.
The Wedding Banquet was held in the Vita Havet Assembly Rooms at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, and after cutting the magnificent cake (which included pop rocks), the couple led the first dance in King Karl XI’s Gallery at the Royal Palace.
The new Princess Sofia wore a white silk crepe, organza, and lace gown by Ida Sjöstedt with a tulle veil and her new Emerald Tiara, a wedding gift from King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Prince Carl Phillip wore the Model 1878 Mess Dress Uniform of the Swedish Amphibious Corps, of which he is a Major, with the sash and star of the Order of the Seraphim and the stars of his other orders.
