The Princess of Wales will welcome members of the Royal Family to Westminster Abbey for her now traditional Christmas Carol service.
Together at Christmas takes place on December 6th at the Abbey and Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales will be joined by members of their family for the ceremony which this year takes the theme of love and empathy.
Prince William will give a reading at the service as will Olympic star, Adam Peaty. Sophie Okonedo, Michelle Dockert and Richard E. Grant will also speak at the service. Each of their readings will focus on love and empathy. The Princess has said this year’s Together at Christmas will be centred on how much everyone needs other people, especially at difficult moments in their lives.
During the service, candles will be lit as symbols of hope. Among those leading this part of the ceremony will be Sir Chris Hoy, who has recently spoken about learning his cancer is incurable. Paralympians Lizzi Jordan and Danni Khan will also light candles as will Lindsey Burrow who earlier this year lost her husband, rugby star Rob Burrow.
Music will come from Paloma Faith, Olivia Dean, JP Cooper and Gregory Porter while a specially composed piece from Rosey Chan will also be heard. A special performance by the Royal Ballet School will also feature in the Christmas celebration. And as guests arrive at Westminster Abbey, they will be treated to performances from young entertainers in a steel band and a jazz ensemble, supported by music charity, Restore the Music.
This year will also see a Kindness Tree outside the Abbey where guests can dedicate a decoration to someone who has supported them throughout their lives.
Inside, the ancient church will be decked with sustainable trimmings including foliage and festive decorations.
Over 1,600 guests have been invited and each will receive a special letter from the Princess of Wales thanking them for how they have comforted others.
As well as the London service, there are fifteen community carol services taking place around the UK in the first weeks of December.
Together at Christmas will be broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX on Christmas Eve.
