The name Harry is significantly less popular a choice for parents naming their baby sons in 2023, with the Royal Family drama surrounding Prince Harry possibly to blame.

However other royal names, such as Lily, Meghan, Kate, William or Charlie, are also not becoming more popular, in spite of the Firm staying very much in the headlines this year.

According to the leading pregnancy and parenting website, Babycentre, Harry has dropped out of the top 30 most popular names for boys, instead landing at number 31.

The name William was even lower down at number 50, although Charlie, rather than the more traditional Charles, has remained high at number 13.

Two of the most popular royal names were Archie, sitting fairly high at number 17, and George, which was in the top ten at number eight.

In terms of girls names, neither Katherine, Kate nor Elizabeth made the list, even though they are two of the most popular royals in recent years.

Other names that have remained consistently popular choices are Olivia, Muhammed, Isla, Theo, Amelia, and Noah, and Henry fell just outside the top 10.

Harry and Meghan may have retained their royal titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex, however one royal expert believes they are now completely independent of the Firm.

Clive Irving, author of The Last Queen and royal columnist at The Daily Beast, told Daily Express US: “Harry and Meghan’s celebrity used to rest on the former’s connection to the Royal Family, but they’ve now been celebrities in their own right for so long that they don’t need to trade on that anymore.

“That’s no longer part of their lives. Harry and Meghan’s future will be seen as completely independent of the monarchy.

“They are no longer attached to it in any meaningful way and I don’t think they can get back into it in any meaningful way either.”
