Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be coming back to the UK as part-time royals with a “six-month” plan as the duchess fears the public losing interest in their brand, a royal expert has claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sensationally quit the Royal Family and moved to the States back in 2020 due to their ongoing row with the Firm, with one of the reasons being they wouldn’t be able to carry on their royal duties part-time.
The late Queen Elizabeth was said to be adamant about a “half in, half out” arrangement for the Sussex coupe, however, it’s been hoped King Charles would take a less strict view.
Royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror: “Meghan and Harry had always hoped that when Queen Elizabeth died, Charles would take a less strict view of what it means to be a working Royal. Six months in the UK as a working Royal followed by six months in the States would bolster brand Sussex which is less and less interesting without the working Royal angle.
“The American public would have much preferred it if Harry had not given up his Royal role – that’s all he’s ever been trained for and that’s the main thing that made him interesting. Now he’s lost that, why should anyone in the States be interested – and Meghan hates the idea that she might be pulled down by this.”
However, it’s long been reported that King Charles is less than pleased with Harry and Meghan’s decision to keep their royal titles despite stepping down as full-time working royals, and it’s also well documented that he is in favour of a slimmed-down monarchy. At this point, any royal return for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex looks less than likely.
