Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly “panicking” about their lucrative Netflix deal after their most recent show ‘Polo’ failed to crack Netflix’s Top 10.
With the couple’s current contract set to expire in 2025, insiders suggest the streaming giant is considering not renewing, and this potential decision could come as a blow to the couple.
The source told Closer Magazine the couple hopes the show picks up in popularity. They said: “They’re still hopeful that the show will gather momentum and prove the critics wrong, but there’s no doubt this is a nightmare.
“They tried so hard to give the network what they wanted, and that was more of a reality show feel than they initially envisioned, but they got on board and came up with a show that they feel hits that target but also has a lot of heart and depth.”
Billed as “an unprecedented look into the players’ lives on and off the field,” Polo seems to have missed the mark, drawing scathing criticism from audiences.
The source added the fate of their deal is in the hands of Netflix bosses: “To hear these horrible rumours coming out that their deal might not be renewed because the network isn’t happy is incredibly upsetting. The whispers have really hit them hard and Megan’s naturally very concerned.”
The Sussexes signed their Netflix deal in 2020 after stepping down as senior royals, producing several projects for the streaming platform. The former Suits actress’s own Netflix show, which finished filming in July is yet to receive a release date, but is said to focus on friendship, food, and lifestyle.
