It may be hard to imagine royals such as King Charles and Queen Camilla as toddlers, but they of course were all young children once.

Today, March 21 sees one of the youngest members of the Royal Family celebrate their third birthday, with little Lucas Tindall no doubt having a wonderful day at home with his family.

The year 2021 saw plenty of royal babies arrive, with Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Princess Beatrice all welcoming little ones that year.

Over the decades the arrival of a new member of the family has always brought great joy and celebration, no matter where they fall in the line of succession.

To mark Lucas’s big day Express.co.uk is taking a look back at the most senior royals as toddlers in a selection of adorable photographs.

Lucas Philip Tindall was born on March 21 2021 at his parents’ home on the Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire.

He is the youngest child and only son of Zara and Mike Tindall, Princess Anne’s daughter and son-in-law who married in 2011.

He has two older sisters, Mia Grace, 10, and five-year-old Lena Elizabeth as his play companions at home.

Little Prince Charles in black and white

Prince Charles Philip Arthur George was born on November 14 1948 at Buckingham Palace, the first-born child of then-Princess Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip.

He was destined to be King from the moment of his birth, however it is hard to imagine the chubby-cheeked youngster in the picture went on to become our monarch.

Charles was born during the reign of his grandfather King George VI, who passed away on February 6 1952.
