The exact origin of this striking cabochon Ruby and Diamond Necklace and Earrings is unknown, but they seem to date from around the 1960s, when they first appeared on Queen Sirikit, who wore the suite sporadically over the next few years.
In the late 1970s, Queen Sirkit’s cabochon Ruby Necklace was pictured on Princess Soamsawali, the first wife of King Vajiralongkorn and niece of Queen Sirikit, soon after the birth of her dayghter, Princess Bajrakitiyabha, but was not seen over the following decades.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn, appointed Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi as his Royal Noble Consort, the first in over a century, just months after his marriage to Queen Suthida, in 2019, though just a few months later, she was stripped of her ranks and titles and imprisoned for a year before her titles and honours were restored in 2020.
Upon her restoration, the Royal Noble Consort Sineenat Bilaskalayani gained access to various jewels from the royal vault, debuting Queen Sirkit’s cabochon Ruby Suite as she accompanied King Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida at the Royal Kathin Robes Offering Ceremony at Wat Mahathat and Wat Bowonniwet Temples in October 2020.
Two months later, the cabochon Ruby Necklace was paired with Queen Sirikit’s Ruby Earrings for a Ceremony in Bangkok.
