Happy Birthday to Queen Sirikit of Thailand, who is celebrating her 90th Birthday today! The glamorous Princess who became the popular Thai Queen Consort for almost 70 years and is now the much respected Queen Mother, Queen Sirikit possesses an incredible jewellery collection, which includes this Modern Floral Tiara!

A striking tiara composed distinct modern diamond floral designs in a wrap-around fame, was possibly made by Van Cleef & Arpels and may be a redesign of Queen Sirikit’s Diamond Bandeau Tiara, though its provenance is unknown.
This Tiara first appeared in a series of portraits taken in the late 1960s or the early 1970s, in which Queen Sirikit wore traditional Thai Dress and Jewellery, including a nine-stone belt and a ruby and diamond chain.
Those portraits of Queen Sirikit wearing the Modern Floral Tiara have been reproduced in several places over the years, notably on portraits displayed in people’s homes and on shrines across Thailand.
The other notable appearance of the Modern Floral Tiara was when the King and Queen Sirikit hosted a State Banquet for the King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia, and Infanta Cristina at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, during the Spanish State Visit to Thailand in 1987. The Tiara has not been publicly worn since, though we can hopefully await a reappearance!
