The late Queen Elizabeth II is said to have held a key role in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding day back in 2018. The couple, who now reside in California, tied the knot on May 19, 2018.
The late monarch, who died in 2022, was just one of approximately 600 guests present at Harry and Meghan’s wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. As well as members of the Royal Family, the couple were also in the presence of some major celebrity friends including Oprah Winfrey and Victoria and David Beckham.
Former royal gardener Jack Stooks has revealed that the late Queen worked closely with the couple to ensure that some major traditions were honoured on their big day – with the late royal holding one special role.
Speaking on behalf of Fruity King, he said: “Meghan’s bouquet included lily of the valley, which is traditional for royal brides. It’s beautifully scented and was perfect for that time of year.
“The tradition dates back to Queen Victoria’s time, and a lot of the younger women still include it in their bouquets – including Meghan, [Princess] Kate and [Princess] Eugenie.”
He also added: “I know the Queen had a lot to do with Meghan and Harry’s wedding flowers. She was using her florist for the evening event, which she hosted for the couple.
“She would have worked closely with Meghan and Harry, and they would have been involved in picking the colours while also ensuring they fit with the design of Meghan’s dress.”
As well as saying their vows in front of guests at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in 2018, the lavish ceremony was watched by millions worldwide.
The couple will undoubtedly mark their special day in private, with Harry expected to treat his wife behind closed doors.
Meghan and Harry welcomed their first child, a son named Archie, in May 2019. A year after their move to the US, the pair later welcomed their daughter Lilibet in June 2021.
