Today marks the 95th Anniversary of the Birth of the late Princess Dina Abdul-Hamid of Jordan, who was born on this day in 1929! The highly educated Hashemite Princess who became the short-lived Jordanian Queen, and later negotiated one of the largest prisoner exchanges in history, we are featuring her Diamond Tiara today!

A striking Diamond Tiara composed of Diamond Scrolls and Diamond Lotus motifs, while the exact origin of the Tiara is known, we have an intriguing theory about its possible origin.

When Hashemite Princess Dina bint Abdul-Hamid married her distant cousin, King Hussein of Jordan, she wore the Diamond Tiara for the Wedding Ceremony at the Raghdan Palace in Amman.

Queen Dina also wore the Diamond Tiara for some gala receptions which may have been on the Wedding Day or shortly afterwards.

Just a few months later, Queen Dina seems to have worn the Diamond Tiara for a Banquet held at 10 Downing Street in London during an official visit to the United Kingdom.

King Hussein and Queen Dina divorced in 1957, and while she likely kept her jewels, like Princess Muna, the Diamond Tiara has never been publicly worn again with their daughter, Princess Alia, only wearing a Diamond Tiara given to her as a Wedding Gift from her father.

An identical Diamond Tiara was worn through the 1950s and 1950s by Helen, the 8th Duchess of Northumberland, which was notably photographed during a Gala Performance at Covent Garden in 1950, during the French State Visit to Britain in 1950.

The Dowager Duchess of Northumberland also wore the Diamond Tiara for the Gala Performance at the Royal Festival Hall during the Opening of the Royal Festival Hall in 1951.

The Diamond Tiara was also pictured on one of the Duchess of Northumberland’s daughters, the Duchess of Hamilton or the Duchess of Sutherland, in the car en-route to an event in the early 1960s.

The Dowager Duchess was again pictured wearing the Diamond Tiara at a Gala Performance during the Belgian State Visit in 1963, and it likely became her primary Tiara after the Northumberland Strawberry Leaf Coronet was stolen the following year, for her last year of service as Mistress of the Robes to the Queen Mother. The fate of that Tiara is also unknown, but it likely remains in the Northumberland vaults.
