Queen Camilla has made a touching tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, linked to a shared military connection.

The Queen planted 100 trees in memory of Her Late Majesty with the help of the Royal Lancers.

Queen Camilla is now Colonel in Chief of the Royal Lancers, a role she took over from Queen Elizabeth II.

The soldiers helped Her Majesty plant 100 oak saplings at Sandringham.

The Queen wore her wellies for the job which turned muddy as the trees were put in place.

Queen Elizabeth II was still heir to the throne when her own association with the regiment began. King George VI made the then Princess Elizabeth Colonel in Chief of the 16/15th Lancers in 1947 when she turned 21. Her Late Majesty retained the role as the regiment later became The Queen’s Royal Lancers and then the Royal Lancers through amalgamations. She was Colonel-in-Chief until her death in September 2022.
