Happy Birthday to Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom, who turns 77 today! The Queen can magnificently carry off some massive Tiaras and has a large collection of chokers and modern jewels among a series of Royal Heirlooms, but in recent years, she has frequently worn what we are terming ‘Queen Camilla’s Coronation Earrings’!
The striking Diamond Earrings are composed of a massive diamond cased in gold, suspended from a gold clip fitting as Queen Camilla’s ears are not pierced. While the exact origin of these earrings is unknown, we have a theory that the Diamonds might originate from the Queen Mother’s Coronation Rivière, which was shorted by several diamonds for the now Queen Camilla in the mid-2000s.
When the then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall led the Royal Family at Royal Ascot in 2022, the then Duchess debuted the pair of massive Diamond Earrings, paired with her 4-strand Pearl Choker with a small Diamond Clasp.
Since her ears are not pierced, Queen Camilla was unable to wear the Coronation Earrings with the Coronation Necklace and Queen Mary’s Crown for the Coronation at Westminster Abbey in May 2023, but instead wore her own Diamond Earrings.
The following month, Queen Camilla wore her ‘Coronation Earrings’ as she debuted the Queen Mother’s Shell Brooch for Day One of Royal Ascot.
A few days later, the Coronation Earrings were worn with a Gold Necklace for Day Five of Royal Ascot.
Later that year, Queen Camilla wore her ‘Coronation Earrings’ for the State Opening of Parliament with the George IV State Diadem.
Most recently, the Coronation Earrings were worn by Queen Camilla with the Queen’s Cartier Gold and Sapphire Flower Brooches as she represented King Charles for the Royal Maundy Service at Worcester Cathedral earlier this year. With this year’s State Opening of Parliament later today, it is likely the Coronation Earrings will be worn again soon!
