Queen Camilla has shared a snap of her new puppy Moley, introducing the “mischievous” and “much-loved canine companion” she recently adopted from Battersea.
Queen Camilla has a love for Jack Russell Terriers. In 2011, she adopted Beth from Battersea, and Bluebell followed a year later. On her coronation gown, featured amongst the embroidery at the bottom of her skirt, were embroidered likenesses of Beth and Bluebell.
Last November, Beth died following an illness. Buckingham Palace announced at the time: “A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen’s much-loved companion from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire.”
On a visit to Kent earlier this year, Queen Camilla told reporters that she’d recently adopted a new puppy who was eight weeks old at the time.
She revealed that her name was Moley because she looked like a mole, and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home later confirmed the news that Moley was a rescue rehomed to the Queen.
Buckingham Palace shared the snap of Queen Camilla and Moley ahead of the Chelsea Flower Show, which The Queen will visit to see a newly-created Dog Garden.
According to the Palace, the Dog Garden features “grass areas for dogs to enjoy and a large tree providing shade.”
Inscribed on the bricks in the path will feature the names of dogs belonging to BBC2 Radio hosts, sponsors of the garden, as well as those of Bluebell, Moley, and Beth; and King Charles’s dog Snuff, a Lagotto Romagnolo.
Following the show, the Dog Garden will be moved to Battersea for the animals there to enjoy.
