Queen Camilla could play a “pivotal” role in finally getting King Charles III and Prince Harry to speak after years of tensions.
Despite being the subject of a series of bombshell accusations in the Duke of Sussex’s memoir Spare, the Queen Consort could set their differences aside to ensure the “non-sustainable” feud comes to an end, a royal insider claimed.
Harry was particularly scathing in his account of his relationship with his stepmother, going as far as to claim he and Prince William “begged” their father not to marry her.
But “pragmatist” Camilla could set their differences aside in order to pacify her husband and youngest stepson, finally putting to bed their row.
“Ultimately Charles has not just a personal but also a strategic need to resolve the issue,” a former Palace staffer said.
They added: “It’s not sustainable for the king, who is the national symbol of unity, to be on such bad terms with his son.”
The insider noted the feud is “essentially a family matter” and royal aides could be unable to offer the King the necessary advice to reconcile with Harry, opening the door for Camilla to step in.
“The division between state and family is sacrosanct so Camilla will be pivotal in all this,” they told The Daily Beast, “She is the only one who will be in a position to advise him who he will listen to.”
They continued: “She is a pragmatist and I’m sure she understands the importance of putting this saga to bed.”
Another source close to the King has since suggested the British monarch is eager to mend the rift with the Duke even if he fails to apologize for the several accusations he leveled at the family since stepping down from his role.
They said the King does not expect his youngest son to make amends because of how “stubborn” the family can be.
“It has been reported that Charles wants an apology from Harry, but that’s far from the case,” the source said, “Charles wouldn’t expect that. He knows the Windsors are a stubborn lot and Harry is no exception.”
But they warned that the Duke of Sussex could still refuse to budge on his own demand for an apology to his wife Meghan Markle.
Earlier this year, Harry urged the Royal Family to “come clean” about the treatment Meghan received after their marriage – claiming their conduct was at the heart of his dispute with them.
He said: “You know what you did, and I now know why you did it. And you’ve been caught out, so just come clean.
“(…) That’s the saddest part about it – it was all so avoidable. But they just couldn’t help themselves.”
