Queen Camilla headed back to royal engagements after several days of rest for a chest infection. And she made sure an issue close to her heart was the focus of her return to work.
On Tuesday, The Queen hosted a reception at Clarence House for authors shortlisted for this year’s Booker Prize. However, Her Majesty had to spend slightly less time than originally planned with her guests as she continued her recovery although she clearly enjoyed her time with the authors.
The Queen was asked about her recovery at the reception, saying ”I’m getting much better….I really wanted to come.”
This year’s Booker Prize nominees are Percival Everett, Rachel Kushner, Charlotte Wood, Samantha Harvey, Yael van der Wouden and Anne Michaels.
Queen Camilla spent time chatting to them all about the books that have put them on the shortlist for one of the most coveted literary prizes of all.
However, this return to royal duties is only a gradual step. Queen Camilla, 77, has been resting at home since last week after developing a chest infection and missed Remembrance Sunday events.
The Gladiator II premiere with Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington was set to be a highlight of the week. However, King Charles will be attending the premiere alone now as Her Majesty continues her recovery.
King Charles will also be on his own to attend a Buckingham Palace reception this week. The event is being held to celebrate the television and film industry in the UK.
The lighter schedule has reportedly been made to ensure that Queen Camilla is able to fully recover from the chest infection without any major setbacks.
