The Princess of Wales is bracing to take on a major role today as the Amir of Qatar’s two-day state visit to the UK officially begins later on in the day, with a ceremony of pomp and pageantry staged in Whitehall.
Princess Kate will join Prince William to greet The Amir of the State of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, in London, on behalf of King Charles. The last time the Waleses held this important role was for the state visit of the South Korean President last November.
They will then travel with them to Horse Guards Parade, where The Amir and Sheikha Jawaher will receive a Ceremonial Welcome before being formally welcomed by the King at the Royal Pavilion.
Queen Camilla will be absent during the official open-air greeting on the Horse Guards Parade due to the lingering effects of a recent viral chest infection, but she will join the royal party later for a private lunch with the Amir and his wife, as well as the state banquet at Buckingham Palace later in the evening, staged in honour of the Amir.
Kate and William will also travel in the carriage procession to join Charles and Camilla as they host a lunch for their guests. She will not attend the state banquet tonight.
