The last Kaiserin of Germany, the Empress possessed a plethora of important jewels, of which not much is publicly known, so to mark the day, we are featuring the splendid Prussian Aquamarine Earrings!

A pair of large pear-shaped Aquamarines set in an antique diamond frame suspended from a diamond bow set in silver and gold with rose-cut diamonds. The earrings originate from Queen Louise of Prussia, recorded in her inventory from 1810.

Empress Auguste Viktoria continued to wear the Prussian Aquamarine Earrings over the following decades, often with a striking Aquamarine and Diamond Tiara, most notably for a series of portraits taken in 1913, the year before the outbreak of the First World War.

The Prussian Aquamarine Earrings were photographed for a book on the Jewels of House of Hohenzollern in 1913, and was probably kept with the family after the abolition of the German Monarchy at the end of the First World War, though it was not publicly worn. They remained in the possession of a Royal Family until being auctioned in Switzerland in 1993.

In 2006, Queen Louise of Prussia’s Aquamarine Earrings were donated by a private owner to the Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG). They are now on display at Queen Louise’s favourite Schloss Paretz.
