Princess of Wales with style surprise

The Princess of Wales made a major change in her approach to Trooping the Colour this year with a surprising style choice.

For many of her Trooping appearances, the Princess of Wales has turned to beloved fashion house Alexander McQueen. Founded by the late Alexander McQueen in 1992, the firm is known for its impeccable tailoring and precise silhouettes.

Catherine has worn McQueen pieces for several major events in her royal life. Her famous wedding gown, covered in lace, was created by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The Princess of Wales also wore McQueen gowns for the Buckingham Palace evening reception on the day of her wedding.

She has also turned to McQueen for royal tour looks and Commonwealth Day appearances. However, at Trooping the Colour, she made a strong departure.

The Princess of Wales wore an aquamarine wool coat dress from designer Catherine Walker. The Bria coat dress features an ivory collar and lapel for a strong contrast. The shade is also known as St. Patrick’s blue and is a nod to Catherine’s role as Colonel of the Irish Guards.

Honoured position for the Princess of Wales

As a royal colonel, the Princess was given an honoured position on the main dais next to King Charles for Trooping.

The late Diana, Princess of Wales was fond of Catherine Walker’s designers and often wore pieces to a range of engagements. Catherine often sports pieces from the house during the colder months.

And while her pick this year is a surprise, it’s not the first time Catherine has worn the designed to Trooping the Colour. The Princess of Wales also chose the fashion house for Trooping in 2015, shortly after giving birth to Princess Charlotte. She wore a blue floral brocade coat dress for that event.
