Princess of Wales wears a Scottish Coronation outfit by Catherine Walker

This means there may have been a few misty eyes in the congregation when Catherine arrived wearing the necklace that she wore to both the funerals of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The Four Row Japanese Pearl Choker includes four rows of pearls with a central diamond clasp; each side features three rows of diamonds that join at the top and bottom with marquise diamonds.

In 2017, Queen Elizabeth II loaned it for the first time to the then Duchess of Cambridge. Decades earlier, in November 1982, the Queen had famously lent it to her new daughter-in-law, Diana, to wear during a state visit from Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

This was not the only nod to Diana – Catherine also wore the Collingwood pearl drop earrings, which were a wedding present to the young Lady Spencer from the jeweller in 1981. Diana used them throughout her marriage, often choosing them for gala events, and today Catherine is regularly pictured in them for both daytime and evening occasions.

The result was another thoughtful but head-turning outfit from the ever-stylish Duchess of Rothesay.
