Happy 50th Birthday to Princess Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg! The Olympic medalist and niece of two Queens served as the Coach of the Danish National Dressage Team.
The youngest daughter of Princess Benedikte of Denmark and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Princess Nathalie is the younger sister of the Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, and grew up at Schloss Berleburg in Bad Berleburg.
After training at the Swedish stud Flyinge with Kyra Kyrklund, a former world champion in dressage, and Klaus Balkenhol, the coach of the German dressage team, Princess Nathalie won the bronze medal at the European Championship with the Danish team, and was a member of the Danish dressage team at the 2008 Summer Olympics, where she got a bronze medal. Princess Nathalie was part of the Danish equestrian team in the London 2012 Olympics, and in 2017, she was named head coach of the Danish national dressage team, serving until 2021.
In 2010, Princess Nathalie married German horse breeder Alexander Johannsmann at Schloss Berleburg, and they had two children; Konstantin and Louisa Johannsmann. Their divorce was announced in 2022. While Princess Nathalie became a Danish citizen in 1998, she is not in line of succession to the Danish throne.
As the niece of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, who is also related to the Swedish and Norwegian Royal Families, Princess Nathalie has attended Royal Events around Europe for decades.
